In the last 2 weeks I have seen both Death Cab For Cutie & Architecture in Helsinki. I'll start with DCFC.
Death Cab was at Fort Canning (not at the nice big grassy part where Laneway was but rather the awkward slope BEHIND Fort Canning. Don't know who thought that through, or didn't rather but basically if you were under 160cm all you would see is the hair of the person in front of you. Chezz, dodged a bullet there HEEHEE). One of the push factors for me to go was because Ben & Zooey just split up so I anticipated that his songs would be even more heart-wrenching, raw and amazing live. And I am glad to report that the concert was SO GOOD! Ben was very engaging and belted out all their great hits. Nick started yelling TWILIGHT when they played "Meet me at the equinox" which was slightly embarrassing.
The only thing I could complain about really was that Ben Gibbard had the WORST haircut. For people who knew me from ages 3-10, you know that hair I had? The infamous BOWL haircut? Yupp, he had it.
So I went home tired, sticky and satisfied. Not at all what you guys are thinking... Perverts.
NEXT! Vette invited me to go watch Aussie band, Architecture in Helsinki who were here for Mosaic. Now I know I studied in Australia but I am clearly not cool enough to know who to listen to so I didn't know them at all. I went anyway because the last time I tagged along with Vette, I feel in love with The National.
These guys are seriously ridiculous performers. They had mad energy and their songs were so happy. Plus beers were $5 so it didn't take much for us to get moving on our feet. After we got autographs (Vette got a hug as well), and they were so sweet. As a new enthusiastic fan I'm going to tell you to get on their site and download their album now! In fact I am going to play their stuff in the office now and have a bit of a dance (just gave myself away that I am not actually doing any work).
Do the Whirlwind,
Jazz
