Aside from an excuse for people to get drunk (never recommended for festivals because it's such a shame to pass out even before getting into the complex; that would be a hundred and fifty bucks down the drain, not to mention missing out on the live entertainments), discovering new bands is always the highlight! A and I arrived at Future Music Festival at about three in the afternoon and the first band we caught was the Naked and Famous (just missed Gym Class Heroes by half an hour), followed by Skrillex, who was definitely one of the festival's favourites.
Next up was Friendly Fires! H and I used to dance around in the apartment whilst having pre's and getting ready for a night out, so I was definitely glad to have seen them live!
The next band was one of the bands A introduced to me, Die Antwoord. They are definitely not your average band. Originating from South Africa, Cape Town, they are a three-people futuristic rap-rave music crew producing a new genre of music called Zef - a South African slang term that describes a unique South African style, which is modern and trashy and includes out-of-date, discarded cultural and style elements. The vocals are led by a husband-and-wife team, stage names, Ninja and Yolandi, and they are accompanied by DJ Hi-Tek. Their stage presence was just amazing, with their quirkiness and heavy dance beats definitely triumph their slightly obscene lyrics and attics; they definitely got the crowd wild!
My favourite band out of the whole festival would have to be English rockband, the Wombats. They are probably one of the more mellow acts at Future but they definitely captivated the audience with their voices.
Last but not least, Swedish House Mafia! A and I were probably the most sober people at the festival and to have survived the whole day, I thought was pretty impressive. It did help to have the pumping beats from Swedish House Mafia flow through your body and you cannot help but to dance.
At the end of the night, A and I were tired but happy. So glad that A persuaded me into going because I would have never been able to experience the atmosphere of being surrounded by good music (at least not for a while because it's not that easy finding somebody keen on going)!
I'll be back soon for more Soundwave music and updates!
Hope you don't stop running to me cause I'll always be waiting,
Chezz
