The National

Last night The National held their first concert in Asia at the Esplanade. They could have come and gone without me knowing if Vette hadn't invited me to join her.
I'm not extremely familiar with the band, I've only ever heard the odd song from when Nick plays it on his iTunes but I'm a sucker for concerts. This year alone I've seen an amazing amount of bands - JJ, Jimmy Eat World, Beirut, Mumford & Sons, The Vaccines, Arcade Fire, Westlife... I've kinda got the process back to front; usually people fall in love with the band then go to their concert, with some of those bands I watched them live and then became a fan. But I digress.
Since last Thursday (after bugging N for songs) I have been religiously listening to their album "High Violet" so that I wouldn't stick out from the crowd so much. It was a good listen, in fact I was pretty confident when we got to the concert.

According to their Wiki page, The National have been around for a while - formed in 1999, Cincinnati, Ohio & have seven albums. Their website is pretty cool as well, go check it out.
The crowd was mainly full of hardcore fans from what I could tell. People were all singing along and even in the back there were a handful who got incredibly enthusiastic when their favourite songs came on. So much for me trying to blend in. But to be fair, I knew about 6 songs!
Progressively through the night the lead singer, Matt Berninger, got more drunk. Probably cos he kept taking swigs from his cup of 'swan pee' & 'unicorn tears'. During the encore he literally crawled and stumbled through the crowd, Vette and I were giggling at the stage hands who were freaking out over the mic wire that got tighter the further he went. That being said, it's not like the concert went to shits or anything, it was actually very entertaining. I quite enjoy madness and it's safe to say I will listen to the rest of The National's albums.

I took a video of Conversation 16 but can't seem to load it onto blogger so I'm cheating and grabbing one off YouTube.

I was afraid I'd eat your brains,
Jazz
