On the Subject of Love

ph: unknown

I was struggling to come up with something witty and engaging for my first post here, so I started looking through the photos I've saved over the years for inspiration. When I saw this photo, I thought it was appropriate, seeing as the theme (for the first posts) seem revolved around love.

The photo reminded me of the song Young Love by the Mystery Jets (feat Laura Marling). In it, the lyric reads:

Young Love
Never seems to last
Far too young
Until they have a past
Playing games
People move so fast
You don't need eyes to see
If someones got a heart of glass

Love can be so easy when you're young, without worries or responsibilities.. Falling in and out of love with a snap of the fingers.
But as we all get older, love starts becoming (for lack of a better word) serious.. Which brings me to the Bible verse I had written and stuck on my bedroom wall:

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perserveres. Love never fails."

This verse reminds me of what it means to be a good lover. Not just romantically, but also as a friend and as a brother/sister/daughter/son. Sometimes we take things for granted or lose track of our roles in different relationships, but the most important thing, I feel, is to always love.

Love xx,
Chezz
