Before the narcissism starts making people throw up, there is a point for my ramblings above. While on my weekly routine of reading Postsecret, there was a link to Soldiers' Angels.
Soldiers' Angels is a volunteer-led nonprofit with hundreds of thousands of volunteers providing aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, veterans and their families.
So what you do is go to the left menu and select 'Adopt a Soldier'. That will bring you to a page where it gives you instructions on how to adopt a soldier. You basically become their pen-pal. Here in Singapore and even in Australia, war is just some tragedy you hear about in the papers. One thing I truly love about Singapore is that it's so safe. And yes I know 'low crime doesn't mean no crime' but we are free to practice whatever religion we want, we are not tortured and we do not live in fear. Soldiers' Angels gives me an outlet to help out. Truth be told, this is probably as close to war I ever really want to be.
They have a couple of requirements though - when you adopt you are committing to sending a card or letter each week, and a minimum of 1 or 2 care packages a month.Maybe Chezz and I can adopt one of the fine soldiers. Bring a little peace to their tense situation.
Just to end off, I would like to point out the red letters at the end of their message HAHA:
Love is NOT a battlefield,
Jazz
